Be Bold!

Hello Guys! I have some exciting news for you. Rue 107 is re releasing Rue Curve with better designs and fit. I was recently apart of their lookbook and I can't wait to show you their new fun items. There is something or the daring woman as well as the Conservative.

After shooting the lookbook, the designer and CEO of Rue 107 and Rue Curve, Marie Jean Baptise, was kind enough to let me play around and style the pieces myself. This collection will go up to a size 3xl which is 22-24.

The new collection titled "Queen Collection" features nudes, blues, and even some bright reds and yellows. The Queen Collection will be released October 28th and I hope you love just as much as I do

Tips For The Everyday Plus Size Woman

Madeline Jones from Plus Model Magazine was kind enough to let me share some of my Golden Confidence tips in the new Love Your Body issue. I've decided to share a few of them below:

1.
Less thinking, more doing. I don't know about you, but I have a habit of over thinking outfits and situations. I end up talking myself out of great things.  Does this look good? Am I sure I'm doing the right thing? Then I turn around, and see someone else doing what I’d talked myself out of, and I get mad at myself.  Just do it!
2. Be comfortable. Being confident is about being comfortable in your skin. Confidence isn't always about rocking the latest trends. It’s about owning who you are. If you're comfortable wearing a brown bag and heels, or a t shirt, jeans and combat boots, do that. Own it!
3. Have a bad day not a bad week. It's ok to not wake up in the best mood. It happens to everyone. We're human. Just don't turn a bad day into a week, month, or year. Feel it and move on.
4. Talk to yourself in the mirror. Sounds crazy? I know, but it really works! On a bad day look in the mirror and say something nice about yourself. "My lips look really nice today.” “My morning breath isn't so bad today.” “My boobs look really awesome in this shirt." One self-compliment leads to others, and can transform a bad day into a better one.

I'm Trying Though
“That doesn't go together”, is a phrase I often hear from my friends. I’m either not doing enough, or doing the absolute most.  There’s no middle grown with me.  I am working on that. I dress based on feeling. I sometimes envy those who live, eat, and breathe fashion. They study trends, understand print mixing, and can envision the perfect outfit with their eyes closed. I just wear whatever works for me in that moment. Many of my friends plan their outfits in advance, and even though I try to do the same thing, I end up getting dressed twenty minutes before I leave the house, or before a shoot for a blog post LOL! I’m working on it though. I’m still trying to navigate this whole fashion world. I’m so happy plus fashion is expanding and giving me the opportunity to grow into my sense of fashion, whatever that may be.

Torrid, is a company I’ve wanted to try for a long time. I saw these shoes on their site in the clearance section, and decided to give them a try. I’m so glad I did! These shoes are so comfortable! I mean COMFORTABLE!!! The best thing about Torrid is that their great shoe selection comes in wide sizes, up to size 12. It’s extremely difficult for any women over a size 10 to find a fun and fashionable shoe, and Torrid does that for me. Since I’ve purchased this shoe from their site, I’m on it twice a week to see what new shoes have hit. They’re helping to make this winter a fashionable one. These shoes are on sale for 26.48! Hurry up and by them before they sell out.

Nothing Is Original Anymore

Let's be honest, we're all inspired by other people's fashion. There's nothing wrong with being inspired,as long as it is not a direct copy, and you're making it your own! I was inspired to wear this neon green kimono, after seeing my friends, Ivory Jinelle, and Candace Nelson, wear their kimonos with pants, and skirts (check out their awesome sites).  Who doesn't like a long train? Are you a fan of the kimono trend?

Forever 21 offers these curve hugging jeans for 15.80! You can beat that. The fit is awesome and very comfortable. I recommend you buy a pair before the sell out.

I'm Pretty Period!

As women we all hear those so called compliments that we hate.  The back handed kind that are given to us if we are deemed too short, too tall, too skinny or too fat.

As a plus size woman or fat girl, or whatever it is full-figured women and girls are calling ourselves these days, we've all heard those horrible double-edged compliments.  "You have such a pretty face, you'd be perfect if you lost weight." Or, "I usually don't date big girls but I'd make an exception for you." And, of course the infamous, "You're pretty for a big girl." God forbid you let them know their sorry ass approach is unwanted.  They get butt-hurt and try to make you feel like they're doing you a favor by even talking to you. Do me a favor? Don't do me any favors. How do you know that I would even like you in the first place? My  larger frame is not a handicap or flaw. I am not a community service project.  There is no reward for talking to me because I am fat. Please don't let the media fool you any longer.  Get out of your small ass mind and into this big girl world. Fat girls are not at home waiting for your phone call or falling for the first guy that speaks to her.  The sad and low self-esteem fat girl is gone. You can stop using those awful lines. We don't like it and it's not turning us on, thanks!

How freaking awesome is this "Pretty Period." cropped sweater from Flaws of Couture! I received this sweater from the designers of the brand Sasha Renee and Garcia Marie. Talk about a statement t shirt. You guys know how much I love my statement pieces. This one is officially a favorite of mine. While I was shooting this a few women kept asking me where I got this from. Check them out!

Karen's Closet New York is officially one of my go to places. The owner of the shop Karen put this outfit together and as I saw it on me I did my happy dance (don't judge me.) Her shop carries straight and plus sized clothing, as well as beautiful accessories. If you're in the Brooklyn area please check her out. You will not be disappointed.

How freaking gorgeous is this bag?? Check it out here!

Country Big Girl
In the city

I'm a southern woman to the core. I love my friend chicken (lol), heavy Chevy's and overly gaudy clothing pieces. I deliciously tacky style moments. I love wearing gaudy or overly bedazzled pieces with something simple. I have been on the search everywhere for a denim jumper and I haven't been able to find one in my size. When I saw Dawn from Kaleidoscope Femme Studio post this on her Instagram account I bought it without hesitation. Her website is FULL of awesome one of kind unique vintage pieces. To say I'm in love with it would be a understatement. I'm obsessed and head over heels in love with it. My obsession with vintage is growing. I love having a one of a kind pieces that helps me stand out from others. Not only is this jumper stylish but it is super comfortable. When you're traveling back and forth in the city comfort is a must.

I love the studded gold detail on this denim jumper!

Blessed!
Most of the time I receive nice comments under my pictures like, “Yassss girl, kill it,” or “yayy for big thighs,” and all types of nice words and phrases of encouragement. Then there are the occasional few commenters who tell me that I’m such a beautiful woman, so I don’t have to show so much, wear dresses that are tight, or wear things that scream I’m seeking attention from the opposite sex. After giving me such “helpful” suggestions they then say, “God bless,” “be blessed,” or , “I’m just trying to help you.”  Normally, I wouldn’t address this, but I see this happen often in the plus-size community, and from women to women in general. It is irritating the way women throw around their mean judgments, and unsolicited expert opinions.

Another Bodyco Dress

Don't rule out those "club dresses" so easy. When you want to "Pull out the big guns and put your freakum dress on" as Beyonce says, the only appropriate choice is a bodycon. You don't argue with Beyonce...you just don't.

Karen, the owner of Karen's Closet NY got a shot of me dancing and feeling myself. I am a hot mess.

This beautiful vintage number is from Kaleidoscope Femme Studio  and the shoe are from Solestruck (click here). It may be a little more spring than fall, but rules are meant to be broken. Simplybe is selling a similar set (click here) and it on sale!

Please don't judge me on my shoe choices. I couldn't decide which one looked better so I wore both.

This beautiful set is from One One Three. It's a bomber jacket and matching pants. I turned the jacket around and paired it with a old pair of black heels from Zigy Soho. This set is sold out, but Zelie For She has a few matching sets in skirts. If you're looking for something more casual check out these matching sweats from Forever 21 (top, pants).
