Big Knees Please
As a kid, I remember people talking about the size of my knees. I never had the small knees that fit perfectly into boots. I was a softball girl and had the softball legs to match. This trait, even back then, made it almost impossible to fit a pair of boots. Add in the "over the knee/thigh high" boot factor and it was dang near impossible to find a pair. Fast forward to now, it has become a lot easier to find boots that fit, but I sometimes still have to alter. These boots come with elastic in the back and I actually altered and added some additional elastic to accommodate my calf (video coming soon). This can also easily be done at the shoe repair shop to any pair of boots. My calves are about 22 inches and these work for 19 inch calves, so I had to add a little. Can I just say this feels like the perfect winter club outfit?!? HA! You can only find me in the club maybe once a year when girlfriends are visiting. But you could do you coat check, have on tights to keep warm and comfortable shoes to dance in. I'm here for it.
Style notes: In these Torrid boots there is an invisible platform built into the shoe. It makes them super comfortable and decreases the incline felt by your feet. I saw Z by Zevarra on the runway last year and loved the line. They were gracious enough to send me a couple of my favorite pieces. The fit is true to size. I will say that this dress is shorter than I generally wear, but with tights and the boots the length was fine. It is a bit low-cut in the front, so the girls will be coming out to play. HA! I posted this coat on my Facebook this weekend and everyone said it reminded them of the jacket North West wore. This one has been out for a little while. Anyway, North looked so cute.

Traveling Zippers
I traveled to GA to see my family for Thanksgiving. Even at the airport, I try to look pulled together even though all I want to wear is an adult onese complete with footies and mittens. I picked up this look from Nordstrom. When I'm traveling, I'm want to wear some sort of stretch jersey for comfort and minimal wrinkle effect. I do like a quality heavy jersey. The reason being is I don't want my pants to be transparent and I hate peeling (or sweater balls). When it comes to stretchy pants for plus size, Nordstrom has an awesome selection. I almost always get my leggings from there because of the quality. I paired with Vince Camuto top and a City Chic Jacket, two of my favorite brands that Nordstrom carries.
Style Notes: I like these leopard pants, because there is fold over flap with can dupe for a hi-waisted pants as well. I like this feature for traveling pants, because when I get up to move around the plane, there my pants are likely to stay up without any pulling or adjustment. I got the pants in a 3X. The Vince Camuto top has is silky on the front, but jersey on back for added ease and comfort. You'll want to note that there is no stretch in the jacket.
The Luxe UnLuxe Coat?
Some of you may saw me feature the white version of this coat on Facebook/Instagram. Out of the two, the black was my favorite, so I decided to photograph this color. The title of this post is "The Luxe UnLuxe Coat," because this is one of those items that looks expensive, but totally isn't. The quality is lovely and you can get a few different looks out of this jacket from wearing it differently. Some of you asked me about the jacket from the Bows & Spirals post. That jacket was sold out well before I wore it (it was also org. over $700, I got it for $75), but his is an awesome replacement with different colors, but a similar feel. I don't usually point out a single piece like this, but I know you guys are always looking for the fabulous and budget friendly and this is definitely it. This coat is totally Olivia Pope, but at a great price.
Style Notes: I wanted to feature a few ways to style it in a more luxurious way. I opted to drape over one of the collars and add a brooch to hold the collar in place. Brooches, to me, make looks feel a little more luxurious and are fun to look for in thrift/vintage shops. There is actually, a button there that you can drape the collar with, as well. The buttons were big and brown and I thought they were distracting, so I removed them. This jacket, from Forever21, does run small (like most of F21's clothing), so I sized up to a 3X. I almost always buy their clothing in a 3X. Returns can be a hassle through them, so I just size up so I don't have to worry about anything being too small. Some of you asked about the arm size of this coat. My arms are on the larger side and the 3X seemed to accommodate my arm width comfortably. I didn't have a lot of extra room, but the sizing works. You'll want to note that the coat is lined throughout and in the arms, as well. If you are looking for a little more room in the arm, you could cut a slit in the lining in the arm portion. Lining will generally give you less room. I see the black is sold out online, the white was sold out as well and they restocked, so they may do that with that black. Otherwise, I would check in-store.

Tips for Dressing Well - Casual
People tell me all the time, "I like what you wear, but I just don't know how to put things together." I want to start a a series on tips for dressing well, where we can look at breaking down how to put together an everyday look. For most of us, a lot of our looks can be casual because of function. Dressing casual, for me, was like my last frontier to master. It's a hard one. It's so easy to look great dressed up, but dressing down can more of a challenge, because there is always a struggle on how casual to be. I will say this, casual dressing, for me, takes just as much effort as dressing up. It's a more comfortable look, but a lot of the elements are the same in terms of hair, make-up, and putting together a complete look. Here's a few of things I do for putting together casual looks:
- Going casual doesn't mean I neglect hair and make-up. Hair and make-up complete the look. A bun is usually a go-to for me for a simple and quick hair-do that is always polished without question. I wear a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a lipstick most days. It's a way for me not to commit fully to a full face, but still look put together. I always feels like make-up is apart of completing the look.
- A great fitting denim can make all the difference. I've recently found a new love for denim. For years I wouldn't wear jeans, because I could never find any that fit me well. Times have changed and I actually have several pair that fit well and look good. A good fitting jean is great for creating clean lines on your body and a great base for any look. I love pencil pants as a substitution for jeans. Finding great denim is a very personal process and labor intensive. You need to try different brands until you find your best fit. My personal favorites come from Torrid, Ashley Stewart, and Just My Size.
- Add in comfy, but stylish shoes. People often say to me, "You always have the cutest flats." This is one of my favorite things to hear. I don't wear the highest heels, but I'm always on the hunt for the cutest flat shoes. I don't want my outfits to suffer, because I won't allow my feet to, so I take a lot of care in curating my flat shoe arsenal. I tend to gravitate towards oxfords, patterned shoes (leopard, plaid, etc), and ballet flats.
- Pass the jacket, please. I always feel like a blazer, moto jacket, and coat pulls everything together, brings polish, and completes the look.
- Fit is everything. I say this a lot, but I can't stress it enough. It's so important that your clothes fit you well. You can get this through correct sizing and/or a tailor (or it's even better if you sew). For me, I judge fit not only by looking, but by moving around. Being a woman that is plus size, I do expect my clothes to shift somewhat just from moving around, but I don't expect to be pulling on them every 5 minutes. Adjustments here and there are fine. A lot of time, before I leave the house, if I find myself excessively adjusting my clothing then I won't wear. I know the fit is off and I will replace it and note it in my head as something I need to have tailored.
- I don't believe in over-accessorizing. This is a preference, but I subscribe the school of thought that less is more. I like to choose a focal point of a look. This look in particular is about this cozy sweater. I generally wear the same studs (I got married in them and consider them lucky), my marriage rings, an additional accessory, and a bag.
I hope this helps put some method to my own process. Feel free to ask any questions below and please let me know if this is something that you would like to see more often.

Capers
If you follow me on my social channels, then y'all know I kind of live in Nordstrom. They are one of the few stores in my area that has in-store plus sizes and there is literally always something fabulous to buy. My favorite sections are the plus, of course, the jewelry, and the make-up. I've started my shopping for holiday looks and I was so excited to come across this Adrianna Pappell dress via Nordstrom. I purchased it without hesitation. I've been waiting sooooo long to buy something with the cape effect. It's exciting that something relatively new to the runways is being offered in plus sizes, and Nordstrom has it. I remember a time where we wouldn't get the latest styles until 2 or 3 years later. I commend Nordy on offering us these fashion forward looks. Just know this cape is everything! I kept hitting my husband with it. I just needed him to understand that I had a cape on and I do know how to use it, but really who would be able to keep from swinging this. While out in it, I got asked over and over where it came from.
Style Notes: This cape dress is in a size 22. It does have stretch. I like the fact that the cape comes past the dress for extra coverage in the back area. Overall, it's very comfortable. If it were colder, I would definitely pair it with some long gloves. This also makes for an excellent little black dress. I really could see my mom in this, so I'm thinking this could possibly be her Christmas gift (hopefully she isn't nosily reading this post). I'll just tell her we can't wear it at the same time. HA! Also, some of you asked about my hair and how I've been achieving my waves. I've been using the clipless curling iron. Find it here. I'm definitely not a hair guru, but this makes it super easy. Just add a little hair spray and you are good to go for the day. It generally only takes me about 15 minutes to put these waves in already straightened hair.
Holiday's Party
It's November, so I'm excited about the holiday pieces that come out during this time. Torrid also has some great gifts listed in their holiday catalog including a new fragrance coming out on 11/17. It smells lovely, like a light powdery/floral scent. I am also super excited to shop for holiday clothes, I tend to gravitate towards colors: red, cream, and gold. Anything sparkly or with sequins are a must as well. Torrid just released pieces from their holiday look-book. I actually got my mailer (with coupons) on Saturday and partnered with Torrid to style a few looks from the look-book. This isn't my usual one piece three ways, but I did use the cropped convertible jacket in two looks. It's my favorite piece from the collection. The jacket can be worn as a blazer, then you can zip off the bottom and wear it as a cropped jacket. Genius!! I love that I'm starting to see convertible pieces in plus. It allows you to get more bang for your buck. Now, let's get into these looks.
Before 5pm office party: I really loved this look. My thought was that this would be a great look for those holiday parties in the office that begin before 5pm. So you still have to work (and I use that term loosely, lol) for the first half of the day, then the rest of the day you are partying. This is a way for you to look festive and office appropriate, and to be comfortable. I know I blog full time, but I do remember what it was like to work a 9-5. Style Notes: I love love love these pants. They are high-waisted and give your body nice lines. They have stretch and I got them in a Torrid size 4. The shell I'm wearing is tucked in, but is long and flowy and can be worn untucked. I got the shell in a 3 to cover the hips. I got the cropped jacket in a 3. This is pretty true to size, so I should have gotten a 2. The jacket is made from a ponte knit material and does contain stretch.
After 5pm office party: I put together this look for those of you that have the after 5pm holiday parties. I love fall because I wear tights, and wear dresses that are a little shorter, but still have that coverage on my legs. I love wearing red and this color is often hard to find unless it's around the holidays, so I'm always sure to grab some sort of red dress during this time. I paired with the cream convertible jacket for the arm coverage you may want, especially when you are with the office folk. Style Notes: I got this dress in a 22 and it fits like a cover. It does have stretch.
Holiday Weekend Break: You've been fancy this week and will definitely want to slip into something comfortable. I chose these leopard pants with the relaxed fit and paired with the "lips" sweater. Style Notes: The lips sweater is a size 3. I sized up for an oversized look. I would normally do a 2. The pants are a size 5. I do have some of these pants in a 4, but there is no stretch and I sized up for extra legroom. There is a drawstring to tighten the waist a little if you need it.

Celebrity Style Capture: Rihanna
I don't think I've worn a full head to toe suit in 10 years or more. When it comes to something that is a big "don't" for me, wearing a bad fitting suit is probably top 5. I would rather not buy one, then wear a one with a terrible fit. My experience in plus size is that suits are a extremely hard fit and they generally require a lot of tailoring to look good. I'm sure a lot of this can be contributed to my body type, but this has been a huge deterrent with me and suits. You may be wondering what changed my mind. I'm not against suits, I just know that there's a hefty investment on the tailoring size. I really wanted a cream suit. I've wanted one for years and thought with the holidays right around the corner, I thought I should just take the plunge. Rihanna was definitely an inspiration for this look. She looks great and just so clean! She's been on my inspiration board for months now. Just as I suspected this suit required ample funds. I paid around $120 for tailoring, which was close to what I paid for the suit. I must say it was worth it. The un-tailored suit did not fit well at all. So, what did I get done? I got the jacket taken in the bust and I had the legs of the pants let out, by adding a sort of tuxedo stripe down each side. I also had the lining taken out. Lining poses a lot of issues for me when it's in pants. It's restricts my movement and makes the fit weird. I never understood lining for plus size...or maybe lining with no stretch for plus size. I do put my own shape wear underneath to do the smoothing that the lining was supposed to do. Anywho, mama got a new white suit!! LOL
Style Notes: This suit is by Calvin Klein. When it comes to a boxy fit, Calvin Klein is probably king of the boxy plus size fit. His plus size line is nearly impossible to wear if you are curvy without tailoring of some kind, so note this when purchasing. I also wanted to mention my lip color is Rebel with Currant lip liner. Rebel isn't that dark without it, but add the lip liner and it's a nice compromise between both shades. My usual go to wine colored lipstick was Milani's black cherry, but I felt like it was almost too dark. Rebel with liner makes for a for a little lighter color that I think works better with my skin color.
A Day With Torrid
Do you know what it's like when you are so excited about something, but you can't say anything? That's how it's been for me, knowing that I was going to be the style ambassador for Torrid! Now, I can finally give you the scoop. My first order of duty as an ambassador was to visit the Torrid headquarters in Los Angeles. I am very familiar with the brand, but this was an opportunity for me to get to know Torrid from a "behind the scenes" perspective and to bring some of that experience to you.
When I first got to Torrid I was greeted by their delightful staff and my own photo at the entrance. Torrid better watch out, I might actually feel special already. HA! Then on to the selfie wall. I have some photos in front of it and you may even find your own. There are a couple of selfie walls, but it's just an amazing concept. If you wear Torrid and tag your photos #torridinsider there's a chance you can get your photo featured on their social media, but you could also have a spot on the selfie wall. Let me just say my favorite photos came from that wall. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy. It was like my peeps were with me.
Then I was taken to each department of Torrid and shown where all the magic happens. My favorite department was where the prints are created. Torrid has real artists drawing designs that are actually transferred onto the clothing as potential prints for the upcoming seasons. My next favorite place was the bra design studio. The reason being is that I know a good bra is hard to find, especially for my busty ladies. I met Vince, who in the world of bras, is quite famous. He was hard at work trying to create bras that work for the plus size customer. He was really interested in what I had to say about my readers and their concerns as it pertains to fit. By far, I know my large busted readers have the worst time finding bras and I was able to share a lot of information that I had received from your comments through the years. Overall, it was really refreshing to see a staff that was passionate and enthusiastic about creating clothing for plus sizes.
On day two of my adventures, myself and Rumer Willis co-hosted an event along with celebrity stylist, Maeve Reilly, in honor of Torrid at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood. It was in the gorgeous penthouse overlooking the city. You guys know I love all things fancy and this was definitely that. Guests of the event included Demi Moore (just know I called my mom the next morning to tell her), George Kotsiopoulos from Fashion Police, Kristin Cavallari, Shaun Ross and two girls that are near and dear to my heart, blogger & People Style Watch writer Allison from Curvy Girl Chic and Plus Model Magazine Stylist, Reah Norman. The night encompassed a preview of the fabulous Holiday Collection, which I can't wait for. It includes lots of sequins, party dresses, and stunning accessories. You definitely want to stay tuned for that.

- Birthdays Was The Worst Days...
...now we sip champagne when we thirst-ay. I just felt like a Biggie t-shirt was totally necessary for my birthday ensemble. I'm not much of a birthday person since I left the east coast. The majority of my friends and family live there and unless I travel, things are pretty quiet. Birthdays often just make me homesick for Georgia, so it was nice to have friend, offer to take me to lunch. We lunched, got manis, I went to the DryBar, found delicious cupcakes, and (of course) shopped. Later I came home to flowers from my blogger boo and dinner made by my hubby (at my request). I also had tons of texts, phone calls, and birthday wishes online. Thank you to everyone for your birthday wishes. I had a very nice birthday!!!
Style Notes: My tee is from Rebdolls. I purchased it in a size 2x. I love the quality of the tees there. They fit great as well with no rolling from two much stretch and they keep their shape. If you are looking for a classic black blazer then you'll want to check this one out from ASOS. To me, it provides a good cut, fabric, and fit. It's not stretch. I got a size 20 and it fit perfectly. So I purchased one of the last skirts Ideel had. It's has a patent leather look with stretch. I got the 3X. I purchased it, because it was different and interesting look. It kind of reminded me of Missy's plastic bag suit in "I can't stand the rain." I still love Missy's boldness in that video to this day. This skirt was also something I had never seen in plus sizes before. I actually had people say they liked the skirt and thought it looked really cool. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it created a lot of static and it makes a lot of noise when you walk.

Celebrity Style Capture: Kim Kardashian & Rebdolls
It's been a while since my last celebrity capture. I think I gravitate towards the Kim or Khloe Kardashian is because of the body type similarities. I'm a much larger version, but they are both very hip and booty centric. Let me just say, when hubby say me in this dress his eyes lit up. Oh men, they can be so easy to predict. LOL. Let's just say, he gave me the thumbs up. There was a rule that I used to always follow and it was to never were nudes/beiges just because I'm kind of a beige color and thought it wouldn't work with my skin. There can be so much value in just trying new things, which is what drew me to this dress from Rebdolls. It's just so daring and I love a challenge. This is definitely one of those dresses that people would want to shout, if you are plus size you shouldn't wear this. Well, I'm plus size and I'm wearing it. I felt super sexy in this dress and this is one of those dresses that just stop traffic. Sometimes, it's fun to have that feeling.
With a dress this fun and my birthday on Friday (whoop!), of course we had to do a giveaway. Rebdolls is giving away (4) $150 gift cards. This contest is open to US & International residents. It will done similar to the last contest. Entries will be taken through 12am on Oct. 17 on the widget below and I will draw and announce the winner that same day. I announce via facebook, but the winners are always displayed the widget below. Good Luck!!!
Style Notes: Now I know you must be curious as to what I have on under this dress. This type of dress is when I usually wear two shapers. Yes, I said two. My readers that have rocked with me from the beginning know that I will do it, if I feel it's going to give me the look I want. You can actually see Kim's shapewear, well I opted from my capri shaper for this one. I didn't want bubble leg. I then a spanx high waist long leg one over. That will help smooth out any bubble leg issues. Let me just say, capri shapers are like unicorns. They are so hard to find in plus size. The one I have is from the Avenue from years ago, but of course it was discontinued. I scouted out one here, for those who are interested.

Torrids
The Garnerstyle Facebook Page reached 200K in facebook likes and I wanted to do a giveaway just to thank you guys for your awesome support. The great folks at Torrid sponsored (5) $100 gift cards to give away to five lucky readers. I figured I'd give you a little inspiration on what to do with that gift card, as well. Really get a bang for your buck with wearing one jumpsuit three ways. Please enter in the Rafflecopter widget below and remember to check back to see if you are a winner. It's amazing how many people I have to hunt down to claim their prize. LOL. I always email the winner, but sometimes it's hard to track y'all down. There are multiple ways to enter, so hopefully no one gets excluded. International people can enter too. Rules and regulations are the the widget.
Style Notes: I got the jumpsuit in a 3X. I'm a 16/18 on top and a 26 on bottom. With that being said, when I purchase a jumpsuit with stretch I usually pick the size that is in the middle of my top and bottom size. For me, this would be a 3X. This was purchased in store. There were a lot of sizes in this available for those looking.

Celebrity Style Capture: Khloe Kardashian
So both Khloe and Kim Kardashian wore this looked and I loved it on both of them. I think I loved it slightly more on Khloe. Khloe has definitely been turning up on her style lately. I knew I wanted to dupe this look because of her. I know sometimes white can be a little intimidating to wear, but I will say that the skirt portion of this skirt is layered like 3 times. You definitely can't see through it and it does pull you in. I love that the skirt is super long and nicely fitted at the knee. So many pencil skirts are all weirdly big at the knee part. I do have on a couple pieces a shapewear with this. Yes, I said a couple. This is bodycon look, so I definitely like to look (as some of my readers say) snatched. HA!
Style Notes: I purchased this as a set from ByGrisel. I received and shared (and other bloggers) the announcement of the model turned designer's new line. Needless to say the line literally sold out in like two days. So the pieces I linked are similar, but not the actual set. I must say really good things about this crop/skirt combo. It's really nice and the pricing was like under $50 (I think). I purchased a 3X in this. I'm hoping that ByGrisel will restock soon. Also, I linked a similar pair of shoes from Asos. I wear an 11, but I size up one to their 12 in their shoes.

Fat Thighs
I'm not going on vacation until July and pretty much by then summer will be over, so I decided to have some fun a do little editorial-ish swimwear look. I also thought this would be a good time to talk about my swimwear insecurities and how I work to get through them. I feel about my legs how some women feel about their arms. I think my legs are pretty terrible, but I definitely don't dwell on it. It is what it is. I have always had really big thighs packed with a lot cellulite, because that's always fun right. LOL. Here are some things that have allowed me to work through my own issues. First off, I work hard and I like a nice vacation. This involves a lot of my hard earned money, so if you think I'm going to sit on a beautiful beach somewhere tropical thinking about my thighs after I have spent my hard earned coins you got another thing coming. To second that, I love swimwear and I love the beach and swimming it just doesn't seem right to spend it all covered up. Second, I love a fancy cover-up, it's where I get to bring in the fashion element that I love. I incorporate them into my beach look. Finally, I tore my ACL in 2008, had surgery in 2009. Until I had my surgery, I was on crutches and in a brace. Let's just say it was the worst, but through that I gained a real appreciation for the fact that I have two working legs. They may not be the prettiest, but they work and I can't be mad at that. I consider myself to be a very logical person, so I think my reasons are more logical than emotional. I hope this helps a little.
Style Note: I actually have on two bottoms. From an aesthetic standpoint I love this suit, but from a plus size friendly standpoint it's not the most plus friendly. The strap on the top is thin and the high waist bottoms are not so high waisted. I subbed in a pair of black high waist bottom from Lane Bryant to give me my desired coverage. I did swim and move around in the double bottoms and it didn't feel weird or tight, I did feel more secure.

Celebrity Style Capture: Amber Riley
When it come to fashion on the red carpets executed in plus size former Glee Star and Dancing with the Stars winner, Amber Riley, is always a favorite of mine. I've enjoyed seeing her personal style grow as she has grown into a woman. When I saw this photo via Stylish Curves "Get the Look" segment, I knew I had to have it. It's always awesome when celebs wear something that accessible to us regular folk. I am a follower of hers on Instagram and I love how she hashtags #ballinonabudget. She always does an awesome mix of high and low pieces. High/low mixing is something that I truly believe in when building a wardrobe. Anyways, I'm loving Amber in this dress and I may be slightly jealous of how she is filling out the top. O_o
Style Note: This dress is great if you are trying to create a curvier shape. I think Amber also proves that it looks better on a bustier body type as well. This dress sold out soon after Amber wore it, but here are a few similar options here, here, and here.
Make-Up Note: I really want to start experimenting with make-up more. I usually have my one look, switch up my lipsticks and that's all I got. LOL! My mom gave me a whole bunch of Revlon products from Walgreens (where she works). I am just now staring to dive in, but I'm having fun so far. I found out with this look that by just following the directions on the back of the eyeshadow container actually works. Who knew?!?

Me In Lavender
I am in love with everything pastel this spring and lavender is no exception. This color makes me feel just like an Easter egg and I like it. LOL. I just want to say that I have on lavender lipstick and fingernail polish as well. I may have gone too far, but I was having so much fun in this color. I trotted around in this look today while I was running errands. I must say it's super comfortable.
Style Notes: So I got this from the Boohoo plus range. They only go up to a UK 20 and so that's the size I got in the top and bottom. This line would be considered jr. plus sizes which sizes slightly smaller than regular plus sizes. This skirt did have some give so I was able to work with it. I do wish, however, that the skirt was longer. A midi, in my opinion, should be around 29 inches, this one was only 25. These pieces also came in mint, cream, and black.

I'm Afraid of Yellow
This is another dress I swapped on the Swapdom site. I am loving the site. I get to swap, wear, and pass on to the next girl. This time is no different. I'll be swapping this dress and two more items. Please see items below. I had some readers ask me what items I am looking to swap. There's nothing in particular, I'm just always on the lookout for anything cute and that attracts my eye. I can say I do like interesting clutches, midi skirts, and fun jewelry. Also, there are a lot of readers and some of your favorite bloggers on the Swapdom site with lots of fabulous items to trade. When you are checking out my items don't forget to check out all the other plus size items as well. Happy Swapping!
For this week's post I channeled my inner Solange Knowles. She is always so gorgeous in yellow. I am usually deathly afraid of yellow, because I consider myself to have a yellow coloring. I'm afraid my color will clash with it, but I'm kind of loving it. Solange and I aren't that far off in skin tone, so I said if she can do it I can too.
Style Note: This dress was originally from Ashley Stewart. The thing I live about their convertible dresses is that is has a strapless tube top on the top portion of the dress, so you don't have to worry about your wrapped portion shifting and possibly showing unwanted skin.

Me In Swapdon
Floral Top (c/o Foxcroft) | Crop Top | Necklace - French Connection (in-store)
I often get questioned by women who want to look fab on a budget. How's free for a budget? Late last year I did a post on Swapdom. A site that offers round robin swapping at no cost (besides shipping) to you. It's almost like going to a big swap party, but everything is entirely done online. It you want to see how it works then check out my previous post here. I actually got to swap out one of my dresses for this blue MonifC convertible dress. I was always curious about these, so this was the perfect opportunity for me get this dress and all I had to do is give up something in my closet. I also wanted to show how you can make an item from Swapdom easily work for you in multiple ways. Three looks, one dress and all for free...I'll take it!
Believe it or not, I still have items available on Swapdom. You can see them here and here. I will also be adding these new items as well. See below. Sign up here to swap with me.
PSPFit MeetUp Recap
So I wanted to do a recap of the #PSPFit event recap mainly because I wanted to give a review on the activewear. I go to a gym where all the girls wear Lulumon's super cute activewear and I am usually getting my workout on in a t-shirt and leggings. I often thought how nice it would be to have cute activewear that is both cute and fits. I often have come across work out clothes that aren't made to fit properly, so that when I move I'm having to adjust and pull and it's just an irritating distraction. I got to try and wear Lane Bryant's new activewear line and beside being adorable it fits really nicely. I'm going to go through each piece and give my thoughts.
LB Capri - I sized down to a 22/24 in these mainly because I want the waist to fit snuggly. I often have issues with the waist being too big and I have to continue to pull the pants up. These were great. I wore them all day with no issues.
LB Tank - A razor back tank that is nice and long, I love this tank. I actually got two of the same.
LB Sports Bra - Yall this sports bra was not playing. I know a lot of women are on the hunt for that sports bra that is going to keep you secure and in place while you are working out. This sports bra has underwire and padding and fit more like a bra than a sports bra. I do advise that you go in an try it on. They said you should order one size up and I will agree with that. It runs small. For me, I will probably go with the regular sports bra. My boobs don't really move.
Pink Top - Since it's cold and I do somewhat of a boot camp sort of work out, I really like to layer. This is a great layering piece, especially now that it's cold. Order one size larger if you want the off the shoulder look. I ordered a 22/24.
Other Notes: The activewear has Trudry technology to help to keep you dry during workouts. There are few things that I wish I would have seen. I wish I would have seen more full length workout leggings with fun details. I'm not a fan of the wide leg workout pants. They make my ankles hot. LOL. Draw strings in the pants would have been great for extra security. I would also love to see compression technology in the leggings. In a effort to make sure that you guys can take advantage of the sale, activewear is Buy 1 Get 1 free and the bras are Buy 2 Get 2 free right now as well. Happy Shopping!

A Different World
When I came across the Hillman College sweatshirt on pinterest, I knew I had to have. Before I went off to an real college, I was first a student at Hillman, every Thursday night like clock work. I remember being 9 years old sitting in front of the T.V. plotting my plan to get to college.
There are 3 huge factors that marked my way to an education. The first was my aunt, who always brought me books. She was a teacher and the well known college graduate of the family. Always exuding intelligence, she is so smart, I always wanted to be just like her. The second was my younger sister, with whom I refused to share a room with after the age of 18. Let's just say our personalities didn't mesh well. The third, and probably the largest factor, was the show, A Different World. To this day, I love this show. My favorite episode is when Whitley and Dwayne got married. Poor Byron (now Papa Pope on Scandal) got left at the alter. I may be showing my age, but I never miss an opportunity to watch reruns.
Style Note; This is/was a full length sweatshirt. I cut and hemmed it with hem tape. I figured I should put the Chastity twist on it. This look is also a fantastic after - Christmas look. Right now I don't even want to look at food or wear anything that is tight around my waist. LOL.

Do you have a favorite "A Different World" episode? What is it?
Oaktown 357
The only time I go out is when my friends and I meet up for our girls weekends. We all live in different states, so it only happens once a year. So I get myself together for a weekend of bar hopping and dancing. The funny thing is when I think about going out to a club type thing it just turns me off, but somehow I always end up have an awesome time. We ventured all the way over to Oakland's Somar Bar to get our "two step" on. As I really don't know the area it was just plain luck that the club was jumping and the DJ's were pumping. Yelp didn't steer me wrong. Needless to say, we had a good time. I've been to Oakland a few times and I really like the area. It has so much more character than where I live. Every time I think of that city, I think of Oaktown 357. I know I'm showing my age, but just in case you wanted a "two step" break feel free to listen below.
Style Note: I literally died when I saw this skirt pass by my pinterest board. Wouldn't you know the thing was only available in straight size. As a frequent shopper of both ASOS & ASOS Curve, I don't why they don't offer some of their regular styles in plus. Pieces that would be easy plus size conversions, like this skirt below, I believe would sell out instantly. This skirt is a size US 14. Although, ASOS does run big, I really had to shimmy into this one. I loved it so much that I just couldn't let it pass by. It's made out of that scuba material and had 19% stretch, so I gave it a go, but I can't lie and say I would have loved to have it in my actual size for an optimal fit. Another issue with this skirt is that it sold out quickly, but one thing I learned about ASOS is that you can stalk the link to the item that you want when it's sold out. They will post whatever sizes become available. I assume they are from returned merchandise.
Gwynnie Bee
Recently, I've started started using Gwynnie Bee. For those who haven't heard of the site. Gwynnie Bee is like Netflix for plus size clothing. I'm on the 3 piece plan ($79/month), which allows me to get 3 pieces per shipment with unlimited swaps. You can literally wear and switch out clothing all month long. I took two weeks to really try out the program and get a feel for how it works, so I could deliver a full report on my experience.
Budgetnista
I'm always asked, how can I be fashionable on a dime. I honestly can't think of a better way than joining Gwynnie Bee. You can swap clothing out month long and literally have something new to wear every time you step out. Who doesn't love to have new clothing on. Their most popular program is 3 pieces for $79/month with unlimited swaps. Moving to the very expensive Bay area, Gwynnie Bee has definitely allowed me to stretch my clothing budget.
One Hit Wonders
I'm the worst when it comes to wearing items one time and never looking back. I think it's the curse of loving fashion. I wear something then I'm ready to move on the the next thing. Gwynnie Bee allows you to keep your closet clear of one-hit wonders, saving you both money and closet space.
Borrowed Clothing
At first, I didn't know if Gwynnie Bee was for me. The wearing borrowed clothing thing made me apprehensive. What got me over this hurdle is a few of factors. One, I wear foundations, so most of my clothing barely even touches my bare skin and I shop thrift. Thrift is probably the worst of "pre-worn" clothing in terms of smell and cleanliness, but as long as you wash or get it dry cleaned then it's fine. Lastly, I really went and read about their cleaning process. They go through a thorough inspection of items and retire items that no longer meet their high standards. I've gotten a total of two boxes in so far and the clothing is in like new condition and smells good (Yes, I smelled the clothing).
Shipping
Gwynnie Bee claims that with could get up to 12 new pieces per month to wear. I agree. I got some pieces shipped them back and in 2 days I had new pieces in my mailbox. You can tell the site that you have shipped back, so that they can prepare your new shipment which allows a quicker turnaround of your new items. They also provide pre-paid shipping bags, which allows you to easily mail back your items.
Knowing Your Brands
Most plus size shopping happens online, Gwynnie Bee allows you to try items with no risk. You can get an idea of the sizing and try new brands.
Free 30 Day Trial
I think the best part thing is that Gwynnie Bee gives you a free 30 day trial You can try it out and see if the program is for you. I can tell you my experience, but this gives you a chance to have your own. You can get you free 30 day trial here.
Style Note: My sister is visiting from San Diego. She's a MAC makeup artist and brought me so many goodies, including a limited pink lipstick called Silly. It's so pretty. I'm also really digging the double cuff trend. As one who has always had larger wrists, finding bracelets that fit is always a task. Cuffs are always the perfect solution, because you can bend them to accommodate your wrist size. Lulu Avenue generously provide these amazing cuffs. I think they are my new favorite accessory. Wondering about my foundation? I'm doing a special dedicated post this week. Stay tuned.

Burning Bras while Picking Afros
Ironically, the last thing that I accepted on my body was my hair, not being fat. I know it may sound crazy, but I remember battling my hair for so many years and being envious of the girls with relaxers. They got to wake up in the morning with no frizz and bone straight hair. I did try the relaxer thing, but soon I had a sink full of hair from breakage within only a couple of months of having it. I even made my younger brother iron my hair (He would never admit to it today). I used to think of straight hair of not only being more polished, but I thought it had the power to allow me to blend in to society. It's what was on the commercials and what everyone seemed to be aspiring to have. In the mind of a teenager who was being raised in a small town in the south, biracial (which because of my location was an anomaly in itself), & stuck out like a sore thumb blending was this sanctuary of normality that I was always trying to find me way to. Straight hair , for me, didn't exist until the Chi came out. I got it there a few times before, but with Georgia humidity it never lasted long. Fast forward to my socialite days in Atlanta, I would straighten for a night out (because that's what the boys wanted) and then I would come home hair as big as Diana Ross. My friends would find me at the end of the night by looking for the tall girl with the big hair. Now that I'm writing this, my hair envy was based on what others thought was beautiful and not what I thought.
Three things had to happen for me to accept my hair. The first was moving to Dallas. It's nearly impossible to even hope to have straight hair there. It's so hot that all you want to wear is a ponytail or a bun and if you are going to do that what's the point in putting heat on your hair when you don't have to. The second was that I really got into plus size blogging and breaking rules, what others wanted or thought was null and void. Finally, the start of the natural hair movement. African American girls were tossing their relaxers out the door and embracing their natural hair texture. I remember walking past this girl in the movies. Her hair was the most gorgeous texture I had ever seen. It looked like cotton candy. My jaw hit the floor. I so get it now. These girls were owning their tresses. Self acceptance in any arena is a great thing whether it's hair, weight, etc. Not to take away from anyone with straight hair. There is beauty in all textures. There is something so empowering about tossing society's beauty standards out the window. So this is a special shout to the natural hair girls. I've been natural most of my life, but because of yall I accepted and am now embracing it.
Style Note: First off, I absolutely adore this look. This definitely brought me out of my "Mexicoma." I've been getting bored with myself and really want to start wearing pants more. They are such a hard fit for me, but I really want to get out of my own box. I put my own twist on this look from SimplyBe. When ordering this I didn't like the neckline of the top. It's a v-neck and was kind of weird. It was not deep enough, in my opinion. I was worried about it and when I ordered my intuition on the neckline was right. I hated it on me. I was ready to send it back, but I thought maybe I could wear it backwards. I love a boatneck. The zipper is invisible and unless you were all up in my personal space you wouldn't know. Then I thought what about a hint of sexy by going unzipped and bra-less. Yes no bra! (I kind of was in a burning bra mood while reading all the updates with Texas and their shenanigans.) It's the unexpected sexy. I've never really do "in your face" sexy all that well just because that's not me, but "sneak up on you" sexy is me all day. Below you see the look zipped up, because I know that everybody can't whip out the girls all willy nilly and if you choose to wear it backward you can choose your own zipper height. The pants of this outfit only have elastic in the waist. I was thinking that the actual pants were going to have some give because of the fabric content, but that content is referring to the elastic in the waist band. In my opinion, these pants are cut wide in the stomach hip area and slimmer in the legs. They fit just right in the thighs, but were too big in the waist and hip. Because of the elastic in the waist, I did a quick alteration. You know how little kids have that elastic you can pull in the waist band, so their pants wont fall down. That's what I did. On the inside of the pants, I pulled out a portion of the elastic, so that I could tighten the pants in the front and the back. I could couple this with a shorter shirt and you wouldn't be able tell I did anything to them. This is a tailored look. The fabric really has no give, so be sure to use the size chart to order. I'm also shapewear-less in this garment. The peplum provides me tummy coverage and the fabric is thick enough and the fabric is so busy that you can't hope to see any cellulite issues. It's like the perfect summer outfit and with the coupon (its on the website) it cost me like $60.

Homecoming
Today was the perfect last day in NYC. Rez, Stylish Curves, and I walked through a street fair, shopped, and sipped on Starbucks. It was really leisurely and I wasn't committed to anything. Tonight in NYC, Rez and I just decided to go to dinner and have drinks. I have an insanely early flight in the morning. I've been traveling for 8 days and I am definitely ready to go home and see my husband and Shug. I will blog about the indie show when I get back. It's a large post and I'm too tired to focus hard.
Who said We Cant Wear Stripes
So I've arrived in California and have been having the most horrific time so far. My husband and I contracted with Green Van Lines, to move our stuff. They came and picked up last Wednesday, now it's Friday and we are finally getting our things. We paid a pretty hefty penny to have our items packed and shipped, so please excuse me if I expect them to exceed or at least meet the expectations they set. Well they missed their ETA, because of a mechanical issue with the truck. How exactly this is my problem I don't know. At the very least I expect the company to have working trucks, it's a moving company right?!? So besides having slept on an air mattress for the last 5 days, why am I irritated? Hmmm, my husband starts Monday and took an additional week off to help unpack and relax before he starts his job. That's out the flipping window. I've been wearing the same 2 outfits for 7 days now, did I mention the air mattress that not only hurts my back, but make me sweat, and to add insult to injury I've been without internet because the cable company won't connect the cable and internet without having anything to connect to. Top it all off with have a terrible phone signal which may cause me to break up with Sprint after 10 years. I tell you one thing, we will probably move again and I will not be using this Green Van Lines again for our next move. My irritation with moving process is this, you get quotes on moving your apartment and these companies literally hound you every waking moment of every day until you decide what company to go with. Of course they will promise you the world and tell you how reliable and fantastic they are while they are getting your money from you. Then when it comes to finishing the job, they hand you a bunch of excuses. You know these people had the nerve to tell me there was nothing they could do. Well I could have saved my chunk of change and packed my own crap. Note: If this was a regular conversation I have some extremely harsh language! (I hope I don't sound like some brat with first world problems, but I mad as hell.)
Yes, I love my dress, but I'm sure if you can see the irritation on my face through these pictures. JIBRI hooked me up with this fabulous dress for Miami. I traveled with it for my nights in Vegas and anything I would have to that I may need a dress for upon arrival. I'm actually looking into some job opportunities and thought this was could be a fab interview dress or a night time dress depending on the shoes.
***Update: My husbands TV was shattered from the inside. The reason for the having GreenVanLines pack up our apartment was just to make sure his TVs were packed correctly. He loves those TVs. So irritated!!!

Denim Date Night
Date nights are usually made for dressing up, but I decided to switch it up. For some reason or another my husband loves when I go casual. I think he just wants what he usually doesn't get. Just like a man...LOL. Anyways, I've been on the quest for denim for a couple reasons. One, you guys always ask me about it and I just don't have a lot of experience buying denim. I want to step up my game, so I can have some insight. Two, I am really working on my casual game. This post includes an entire look from Old Navy. They invited me to partner with them on a post. I thought it was the perfect time to revisit their denim. I used to buy their jeans a few years back when I was a bit smaller and loved the fit then. My main love of the fit is the fit of the waist. I hate that "gap in the back" that come from having wider hips and a smaller waist. It can cause you to be tugging on your clothes and pulling up your jeans the entire night. These jeans fit snugly around my waist and probably the best waist fit that I've worn thus far.
I often get the question from women size 24+, where they can find clothes. A lot of brands just go up to a 24 and there is a large group of women that are sized out. Old Navy goes up to a size 30. Ladies make sure you note it and file it away in your shopping directory. Oh and to our Canadian neighbors to the north, Old Navy Plus Sizes are now available to you too, but you must visit the Canada specific site to place your order.
Style Note: Don't expect a tremendous amount of stretch in these jeans. You need to get your true size. Use the size chart and go from there. Denim shirts are a must have in any girl's wardrobe. I'm loving this one, there is no stretch and I wanted it to fit my hips, I bought a 3X. I know you guys are like, "Boots in August." Well around here people wear boots all year long. I thought it was close enough to September for me to get in on the fun and a great time to provide some Fall inspiration. It's already time to be on lookout for your next pair of boots, all the good sizes sell out quick when Fall really gets underway.

Plus Size Runway
I'm covering a lot in this post, so just bear with me. I saw this jumpsuit from the Alexandre Vauthier Collection months ago and immediately thought of JIBRI. I knew I had to have this look. This has been a signature jumpsuit of this designer for years now. I hear a lot of women complain that no one is doing fashion forward items for plus sizes. Well here is the perfect example of a plus size designer giving you killer runway fashion in your size at a reasonable price and before anyone else did it. Believe me the Alexandre Vauthier carries a hefty price tag of 1K plus. I hear complaints of higher end plus size designer's pieces being overpriced, but I personally feel lucky to be a plus size girl. Try walking into Prada and buying a dress for under $800. I know I wouldn't be able to afford those prices. I've bought some of the most beautiful clothing that I know I should have costed way more than I paid. Example, the Kitty from JIBRI and a hand embroidered pencil skirt from Rue 114 would have easily gone for over 1K in any major department store. I wore this the the Curls, Curves, & Cocktails event and heard the panelists talk about supporting those that support you. I hear so many get complaintS about prices, but no one complains about Louis Vuitton's prices. They accept it and either covet the item and say they can't afford it or save up to buy one. No says that the item is not worth it, but when it comes to plus size clothing the same courtesy isn't given. Note that we need designers with creative abilities to drive the industry forward. What would happen a JIBRI or a MonifC went out of business? At this point those are our Gucci, Prada, and Louis. Just food for thought.
So I'm in San Jose/San Francisco area looking for housing. In case you missed this point, I will be moving to the area in less than 2 weeks. (Just know I'm livin' la vida loca right now and not in a good way.) I figured out when I got to the airport that I forgot my camera. So you already know these pics are gonna be gorilla style. Through the grueling process of looking for place to live, because who knew it was a competition to find a place to live, I got to attend the Curls, Curves, and Cocktails event thrown by The Curvy Fashionista and Natural Selection. The event was panel discussion of the industry's experts on hair, makeup, and plus fashion. Panelists included Yuliya Racquel from Igigi, Chenese Lewis, and owner of LAMIK makeup line (...and youngest African American woman to have her line carried in a major department store, I might add). It was a nice break from the home searching process. I got to have dinner with the panelists, most of whom I've met before and let me just say meeting so many fun people that will be living in the same area takes some of the edge out of moving across the country.
Running out to California was a last minute decision. I just got back from Miami and was over traveling, packing, and the whole bit. Rachel Pally gifted me some fabulous maxi dresses that have been my savior this trip. Easy to pack, the fabric doesn't wrinkle, comfortable, and above all else, stylish. I'm about life! These dresses are resort wear at it's best. I wish I would have had these in Miami.

World Famos Khatu
I know a lot of you saw this outfit on Instagram and Facebook as I purchased this specifically for my Miami vacay. I actually pre-shot this with Los Angeles based fashion photographer, Famos of World Famos. I was even the first female "model" he has ever shot with. I'm totally in love with work and had so much fun shooting with him. You know I love a twinsey, so I added in a couple more ways that you could break up the combo.
I know yall have been wanting to know the answer to the big question. Where did this come from? Well a few months ago I on Instagram, one of my favorite sraight size fashion bloggers to follow, Ivonne Stacey, posted a photo of this outfit on her Instagram. It turns out that this was blogger, I am Khatu's, amazing work. I'm telling you, you never know if you can get something unless you ask. I was a little nervous about asking her to duplicate this look in my size, because I wasn't straight size and I knew my measurements may be a little difficult to work with. Khatu and I are totally on opposite ends of the size spectrum in size, height, body weight, and body type. I have also had experience where the designer won't make something over a certain size and has declined my sale. This wasn't the case. She was super sweet and easy to work with and the turnaround time was really quick. She requested about 8 different measurements from me. She sent over a picture diagram of what measurements to take. It couldn't have fit more perfect. I was so excited to wear and had to wait almost two whole months until I took my vacation and the weather was warm enough. Yes I have had this for almost two months! My number one rule is never wait to the last minute to plan your looks for an upcoming event.
Note: This is a full custom job. From the length of the breast cups to the length of the skirt. You will have to provide 8 - 10 different measurements. You may want to have a friend help you. These pieces have NO stretch or give. The measurement you put down is what you will get. If you plan on wearing a bra (I am not), then take your bust related measurements with the bra on. You can also decide on whether to have the back closed (see instagram picture below). My back was closed. I actually used this top as a swimwear top while in Miami. It was warm, but that water was freezing. I had to plans to put more than my toes in.
Update* This is an older post and the black and white look is gone, but find a similar look here.

The Beacon
I definitely wanted to review that hotel that I stayed at. From my personal experience, Miami South Beach hotels are either really good or really bad. I've stayed in bad before and I just thank God I didn't end up with some kind of rash. The Beacon, on the other hand, was very good. It was an adorable hotel, it had an attentive staff. I mean they knew your name and they really paid attention to who was "supposed to be" in the hotel and who wasn't. I would like to note that the rooms are very New York Style in that they are very small and the bathroom, although very nice and pretty, will give you claustrophobia. I also stayed one night at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Miami, which was regular size and conducive with all other Hyatt Recency's I've stayed at. My assumption is that they built the rooms small and compact, so they could fit as many tourists in as possible. Anyways, The Beacon is on Ocean Dr and very much in the middle of everything. It was clean, had nice soft and cushy beds, and the decor was beautiful. We spent $400/night to stay, but it was a popular weekend and we booked at the last minute. My guess if you book in advance, you probably could get between $200 - $300/night. I can't really think of any negatives, but probably because I wasn't every at the hotel that long. I also had some packages delivered to the hotel before I even got there and they held them for me with no issues. Overall, I give this hotel two thumbs up and I would definitely stay again.
Note: The JIBRI outfit is two pieces. It's a little hard to tell. She offers a mini length and a long length in all of the high waist flare skirts. I just like mine long.
Due to my "non knowing" how to use a camera friends, I had to re-shoot this. The Instagram photo is the original look.
Club Tropicana
Alright y'all, please bear with me. I plan to post outfits and the details everyday from my Miami trip. I did and wore so much it's kind of a whirlwind. Let me just say how much I like visiting Miami, the water, people, and weather was beautiful. Even though there was a cool wind I still was able to get much needed beach time. The funny thing is every time I've been to Miami, I never seen downtown. So night 1, we stayed at the lovely Hyatt Regency downtown and did much shopping and then switched over to the Beacon on Ocean Dr. In tomorrow's post, I'll get more into the details of the hotels.
Every year, I buy three swimsuits. These year's will include two fatkinis and 1 full piece. I love vacationing during the summer and I like to have choices when I'm out. My new swimsuits that I bought hadn't came in yet, so I actually shopped my own closet and created a new look. I've had this top since 2011. I bought it from an etsy seller (who doesn't exist anymore, but I found one with that you can order a similar top from). I didn't wear it back then because, I ordered some bottoms with the suit and sewing work on the bottom portion of the suit was terrible, so I never wore it. The top was just fine though, as you can see.
Note: A top like this has no support. Even me, I still want some lift and roundness in my bust. Fortunately, they sell strapless bras just for your swimsuit. You can find those bras at OneStopPlus. I do have a strapless bra with my suit. The cups even dry fast right along with your swimsuit.

Penny Chic For Plus Sizes
I love blogger/brand collaborations and supporting them, especially when they are fabulous like this one. Penny Chic, whom I recently discovered, partnered with Wal-Mart to bring you fashion on a dime. What a more fabulous choice to recreate the Little Black Dress, a staple that should be in everyone's closet. At only $20 per dress, this is both chic and affordable. This is Penny Chic's whole mantra, stylish and affordable. I love it! She knows her stuff too, her videos on her under $10 finds are insane! (That's Penny below - how cute is she?!).
On with the challenge. I splurged and bought all 5. I wanted to see how wearable each one of these dresses were for plus sizes. I love the fact that Penny didn't forget about us. She totally offers these dresses up to a 4X. For me, the dress that I would definitely wear is "the curvy." It's flattering and the dress is long enough. Yall know I love a long (below the knee) hemline. "The Curvy" was the only one that provided that. These dresses are definitely for the girls that don't mind showing a little leg. My suggestion is that if you want a little more length go up a size.
Note: I bought all the dress in a 3X. "The Utility" fabric was a little different and I felt ran small. Size up on this one. For those wondering my height, I'm 5'9. All are fab, but my top two in design are the skater and the peplum. My one critique is that I wish they had been longer.
You can find the whole collection here. I'm not sure if it's available in store, I bought the whole thing online (Wal-Mart has 97 cent shipping). PS. Nobody better not make fun of my photo shopping! LOL! Which is your favorite? Find my bun here, my fishnets here. and fun and colorful skinny belts here.
Easy Breezy Beautiful Bad...
So I guess you would call me a reformed internet lurker. I'm usually a person who looks at all kind of blogs & vlogs and rarely comments. I enjoy what others do, but was terrible at subscribing and commenting. Which is weird because I'm a blogger and I know for those of us who "work" online, interaction means growth for our blogs. (Shame on me!) Every so often I get mail from a "lurker" usually entailing a question and an apology for being a lurker. What they don't know is that I totally understand! I'm doing better though, I'm subscribing and commenting. I would probably have to thank one of my favorite people to watch on youtube, Kid Fury. OMG! He's got so much inappropriate hilariousness running rampant on his channel. I love it. I even got my husband watching. He was trying to act like he wasn't funny. He eventually fell in line though now he does the computer hover over my shoulder (I hate that! LOL). Anyways, one of my favorite sayings of his is, "Easy Breezy Beautiful Bad Bitch." So much that I had to get the t-shirt. The funny thing about this t-shirt is that the "grand people" (my nephew's cute name for old people & my parents) love it. I mean like 70/80 year old men come up to me and say, I love your t-shirt. How cool is that?!?
Note: I ordered my t-shirt in a large. You can purchase on the Kid Fury Website. Unfortunately, the shop is under construction. Hopefully it will be back soon.

Celebrity Style Capture: Kim Kardashian
I've been wanting a varsity jacket for sometime now. I'm a huge fan of Pharrell and he always looks so cute in his. I didn't want to invest a whole lot into the trend, so when Wet Seal wanted to partner with me on a post I was delighted. I scanned their clothing and came across this adorable jacket. Celebrities wear these jackets all the time in a more casual manner, but I wanted to give mine a sophisticated look. I think Kim Kardashian did it perfectly. Trendy, but polished at the same time.
Note: I tried on two different sizes of this jacket. I initially got a 3x because it is a Jr Plus line. Jr. Plus run smaller. The 3x was too big for the look I was going for. I wanted the more cropped/smaller fit, so I traded out for a 1x. I think I should have gotten the XL in the regular sizes to get closer the cropped fit I was looking for. I would say these jackets run large.
Outfit: Jacket - Macys (similar), Skirt - Vince Camuto, Shoes - Ninewest (similar) $71, Aviators - $12 (similar) (Note: Jacket was c/o Wet Seal.)
"Florals? For spring? Ground breaking." I always think of this line from the Devil Wears Prada when I wear floral. It's crazy that I can be all bundled up one day and then be able to step out for Sunday brunch the next day with just a cardigan. Dallas, I'm going to need you to pick a season and go with it. I'm not sure if this sounds crazy, but sometimes when I have a particular dress or outfit I imagine a theme song for the outfit and the perfect place to wear it. So you might say that sometimes my clothes dictate my activities. I love Sunday Brunch, but I rarely go. This dress said I should go to Sunday Brunch in a little nook where it was surrounded by beautiful green shrubs. That's what the dress said, so I did what the dress said to do. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I just hope my clothes never tell me to do something that could get me in trouble. My theme song to this dress is Kiss Me by Sixpence Non the Richer. I did get a kiss today (wink).
Here's a quick review of the dress given to me by eShakti. I love the dress and the fabric. The fabric is light and flowy, perfect for spring. And yes, that is a bubble hem. I was able to choose the length of my skirt and this is the longest length. Bubble hems can be tricky, especially if you like your skirts to be long and you have a "big booty" like I do. I hate the possibility of my skirt riding up in the back. This dress, in my opinion, ran a little small and the bust portion was small. I would order one size up. I ordered an 18, but since the bust portion is carved out there is a risk of the bust seams not being in the appropriate place. Had my bust been a little bigger, it would have worked. I would have had that seam in the middle of my bust, which is a no no in my book.

Happy Ash Wednesday
Happy Ash Wednesday! The look below is my look for today's mass. I decided to have some fun and throw in a date night look (top) and a work look for today's leather skirt. Just to show you can style one piece in many different ways and get that bang for your buck. The sun was awful while I was taking photos, so please excuse the squinty face.
I also got to try out my new curling iron. I've been looking for one for a while now and I eventually settled on the Cortex 4 in 1 iron. You get four barrel sizes, this allows you achieve different curl and wave sizes. I saw PassionJonesz us it in her videos. The hair she uses to curl is heavier than mine, so I figured it should work great for me and it did! I always wondered about Taylor Swift's curls and by using this iron. I know that's what they must use on her hair.

Dream Girl
Last night, I attended a premier for the indie movie, The Tents. It's a documentary that tells the story of New York Fashion Week and Bryant Park, from how it got started to how it ended. I thought the movie was very good, informative, and very entertaining, if you are a fashion-lover or developing an interest in fashion, it's definitely worth seeing. That's all I'm going to say so I don't spoil anything for anyone. Check out the trailer here.
Surprisingly enough, I just bought a black dress for the first time in years. As a woman and a blogger that is plus size, I feel it so important that wear and show a variety of looks in different colors and patterns to dispel any myths that we can't wear this or that. Sometimes, even without realizing it, I feel that like I have something to prove with my clothes. It made me overlook the little black dress. I finally just broke down and bought one, I actually plan on riding this one out for the next half decade. I coupled this look with just a straight up comb out of my curls. I felt very Diana Ross. I wanted to open my hands and say, "oooohhhhh ahhhhhhhh." LOL.

Edge of Seventeen
I can admit I was feeling a little rocker chic (and like I kick butt and take names later if needed) at my lunch date with my honey. He really loved this looked and encouraged to get out of my "holidaycoma" and take some photos. While wearing, Edge of Seventeen was in my head while wearing this. I'm not sure if I'm weird, but when I wear certain look, a song that I associate with the look usually pops into my head.

Looking Cooooooool
Yall know I love my leopard, so when I game across this leopard peplum top (I tucked in the peplum) I knew I had to have! I picked up the top from Fushia Love, a trendy little online boutique where nothing is over $50. Anyways, when I saw a similar outfit on the pinterest board, I knew I had to recreate it for plus. I don't know who the blogger is, but she is adorable. The mix prints, metallics, and neon made me swoon. For you non-southerners that when a southern gal pretends she is going to faint because we are overwhelmed by literally whatever. Did I mention this skirt has snakeskin print? So much fun! This outfit makes me feel so much cooler than I actually am...LOL

Be sure to check out online plus size boutique, Fushia Love here.
The Honeymooners
I thought I would share a few pictures from the honeymoon. There isn't any fashion pics because a lot of the things we did involved a swimsuit and clothes that you didn't mind getting wet. My husband has forbid me to put photos of him on the internet that involve him shirtless. He hates social media...LOL. This will probably be more of a review on where we stayed on our honeymoon and what we did in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Airport Love!
We stayed a Sivory in Punta Cana, which is a 4 diamond resort. It is called a boutique hotel, which from what I gather it means that the hotel accommodates a smaller amount of people. The resort environment was extremely private with very few people there. I think the whole time there might have been 10 other couples on the resort total.
Things I loved about the resort
- The room was lovely
- Room Service was prompt and very courteous - We ordered about 90% of our meals through room service.
- The beach was private
- Because the resort accommodates less people premium pool spots were always available
- The maid was fabulous --- She thoroughly cleaned everyday which is great when you are bringing in a lot of sand.
- Pool side service --- in fact, the service was really great all the way around. The staff really went out of their way to make sure that we were happy.
- The Sivory Plan, which is a set price that includes all your meals, room service, and laundry. The all inclusive plan we got meant that we didn't have to worry about transportation, food, or anything. We basically just showed up.
- The best thing on the menu was the Dominican Flag meal. It was all traditional Dominican food, which to me tastes similar to Jamaican food. It was very tasty.
- This resort is definitely a place for relaxation. There is not a lot going on, but eating, spa visits, and sunning. This is really ideal for honeymooners.
- The spa was fabulous!
- Fully stocked fridge with drinks, wine, & champagne all apart of the Sivory Plan.
- Double headed shower and garden tub.
Things that I didn't love
- The majority of everyone spoke Spanish which made it difficult to communicate...so please brush up on your Spanish before going.
- Because of the language barrier I could not figure out how to tell the staff to cook my eggs hard. The whole trip we had runny scrambled eggs...it made us very unhappy...LOL
- There was a hole in our couch... not very 4 diamondish.
- The bed was hard as a rock. I actually slept on the couch one night.
- I think there is a scarcity of ice --- I know I asked for ice a couple of times and didn't get it. I know all the ice was brought in (probably imported) and not from an ice machine because of filtering issues.
- The pool lounge chair cushions could be replaced.
- Since the entire property (in the tradition of the Caribbean) is open to the outdoor elements I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, which is the reason we ordered room service most of the time. Night time dining was made impossible by those mosquitoes. They gave you bug spray, but I got a leg full of bites that proves it didn't work. You will need to bring some kind of itch relief product.
We did a couple of the tourist type excursions. One excursion included driving speed boats, SNUBA diving, and snorkeling. I would not be telling the truth if I didn't say I had to be coaxed in to that SNUBA. That look on my face is the look of fear. I think we were about 25 feet down in the ocean. The whole underwater breathing thing takes some getting used too. There would be fish bumping into you and just acting like you weren't there. The lady who booked our trip wanted me to bring bananas to feed the fish in the water. I thought to myself, why would I want any fish big or small to associate me with food. I am a "Do Not Feed the Bears," kind of girl. Brian really enjoyed all the adventure and I think he he thought my fear was funny.
Our second excursion was exploring the island in Dune Buggies. I am not really sure why I thought this was a good idea. I guess I assumed we would be on paved roads....not so much. This excursion involved bumpy dirt roads and apparently splashing into mud puddles was supposed to be fun. Brian thought so at least. I personally was not happy at all. The excursion stopped at a place where they make cigars and the end of the tour went to a cave with water. That was the cool part. The water was about 25 feet deep. I actually swam in it for about 5 minutes just to say I did it. Brian was in there acting like it was his second home. The water was extremely cold and I could only think what was in that water that I couldn't see. I saw the movie Piranha...I just didn't want anything to bite my leg off.
You can see the muddiness from the dune buggies, it was so gross. The beach was beautiful though.
The airport in Punta Cana is completely open and outdoors. So this leaves it open for random animals to come into the airport. This cat was begging and just roaming around the airport. For you Dave Chappelle fans all he was missing was a soda. I wonder if he is violating any security rules at the airport.
First Comes Love...Then Comes Marriage: The Ceremony
I was told it was hard to round up good pictures from your wedding and well that is very true. But here are a few that I could scrounge up. With my wedding, I can say I was probably 95% happy with everything and 100% happy with my look. There is an issue of missing corsages that never got to the moms & grandmother.
My Mom And Me
My Dad And Me
If you can guess the dance that my sister is doing you get a cookie...LOL. Hint...who runs the world?
Photographer: Stephanie Brazzle (Great to work with & very patient - these aren't her pictures the real wedding pics take a while to get back)
Flowers: FlowerGarden
I will do a post on the reception. With cake from Romanos Bakery, music from DJ AV, and the wedding venue was Ashton Gardens (with locations also in Houston & Atlanta). Everything did turn out beautifully and we each got the memories we wanted for that day. Everyone asks if you feel different being married and I honestly didn't think I would, but I do. The name change and forever concept is a real life changer, but I am truly excited to get to grow old with my life partner.
My Fonzworth Bentley Inspiration Fun Look
Before I went to the DFW blogger meet up Saturday, I was getting ready to leave and my honey took a look at me and he proceeded to tell me that I look like Fonzworth Bentley and then handed me an umbrella and started humming the song "I like the way you move," by OutKast....LOL. I was cracking up all the way to the North Park Mall. I decided to try a little color blocking with my outfit....and low and behold I actually am wearing a piece from Forever 21 plus size line. I have vowed against such a thing because I am...well...far from 21 years old and the line also reminds me of Wet Seal and I feel it is too young for me. But I saw something I liked and decided to try. The sweater is really nice and thick. I must say I am actually surprised at the quality for only $22. Who knew?!? I probably wont be a regular shopper, but a piece every now and again probably won't hurt.
Norma Kamali Every Which Way
Please forgive me for my lack of outfit posts. I have been working so a lot of my outfits have been centered around work. Todays outfit was inspired by lack of clean clothes...LOL. I wanted to look like I had a pocket watch so I took a chain necklace and draped it in the pocket of the vest.
This is actually my Norma Kamali convertible dress (only $20). If you don't buy anything else the Norma Kamali Convertible Dress should be that essential item. They give you six different ways to wear it, but I know I have found at least 10 more.
I pushed it down and made it into a pencil skirt. On top I have on a Jibri blouse ($50 on sale from MarieDenee.com) and a vest from Target. The vest was on sale for $9.99, which is still available. My shoes are Christian Siriano for Payless.
My summer hair consists of just wearing my natural curls...it is just too hot and humid to try anything else. I hope you like!!!
Ravishing Red
On my way out the door to two parties tonight. I decided to upload a pic. The dress is from Express, the belt from Target, the necklace is from Liz Claiborne, paired with leggings and booties for a ravishing look. Proving my rule of thumb to always shop in all stores...you never know what you will find. Oh and please forgive me...I haven't done my make up yet:). Happy Weekend all!
Norma Kamali 6 in 1 Convertible Dress - $24.00
Last night I assisted with styling for a fashion show and I decided to try out my Norma Kamali Convertable Dress from Walmart. It would allow me to go from day to night really easily. As I started off wearing the dress with the sleeves on with leggings and a pair of flats. When I went to night I wore the dress with one shoulder belted with a pair of peep toe black booties that I had gotten from Torrid at their $19.99 sale (too cute!). I added a necklace from H&M and a bracelet from Banana Republic (picture below).
I had heard a lot of about the Norma Kamali line at Walmart from friends and finally Ashley Falcon of Marie Claire, so I decided to go ahead to http://www.walmart.com/ and order to see what all the fuss was about. I ordered the Norma Kamali - Women's All-in-One Jersey Dress for a whole $24.00 in a XXL. I am always hesistate about something too cheap because I'm worried that the fabric will be terrible and unwearable. To my surprise the dress was great. Besides the fact that you get like 6 dresses for $24. The material of the dress was a heavy and thick matte jersey. Even though the dress is the usually stretchy fabric the dress was stretchy (but not too stretchy) but still had shape. This dress is really a steal at the price and the fact that is really a nice go to dress that can be casually cute of tre tre chic.
On a side note I got my Torrid booties in from the $19.99 sale I posted earlier this month. I ordered a purple pair of booties and the black ruffle peep toe booties in and I can I say they are "oh so cute." I hope everyone who ordered liked their order as much as I like mine:)
(Oh and please excuse my naked face...lol...these pics were shot pre-makeup application, so I look a little on the fresh side)
Happy Halloween
So Halloween is the one time a year where it is appropriate to you ladies to tap into that inner stripper that is inside us all...even if its for only one day of the year. I personally love Halloween and I readily accept the challenge of trying to find an awesome and sexy costume for the curvy girl...mainly this curvy girl. Last year, I was playboy bunny which I though so complimented by new short hair cut last year.
This year I have an even better and more outlandish and sexy costume idea for this year...I hope you are not reading this mom. And I promise it doesn't involve me being naked or even half naked for that matter. But I wont be sharing my costume until after Halloween.
I would like to bring some rules to live by when picking out your super hot costume this year, so that you can make sure that you didn't take things to far.
1. For those of us who weren't blessed with nice legs....Halloween costumes are extremely short 90% of the time. Pop some non-sheer leggings on to complete your look to keep from shocking the masses. My bunny costume barely covered my butt.
2. As with anything take inventory of your body type. Buy a costume that best suits that. For me I know that flare skirts or A-line skirts generally flatter my wide hips. For bustier ladies you may want to rethink that strapless costume for something with a little more support.
3. Even though it is a costume you should still wear you body foundations & girdles....smooth is always better.
MSN released an article on curvy costumes that you can check out for some ideas. Here are some of fav. picks on the list. And remember you can always get a little creative with some accessories and use the clothing of your choice...which may be more flattering for you. You can also check out http://www.anytimecostumes.com/plussize.html
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
